Whether you’re adding homebrew apps, copying game backups, or managing your SD card contents, you’ll need a way to transfer files between your PC and your Switch’s microSD card. There are two methods – pick whichever is most convenient for you.

Method 1: SD Card Reader
The simplest approach. Power off your Switch, remove the microSD card, and insert it into a USB card reader plugged into your PC.
Your SD card will show up as a drive in File Explorer. Drag and drop whatever files you need, then safely eject the card and put it back in your Switch.
Recommended card reader: Look for a USB 3.0 reader for faster transfer speeds (if your computer has blue USB 3.0 ports). A UHS-II compatible reader like the Anker 2-in-1 or a Samsung 3.0 reader that comes with some of their sd cards will get the most out of a fast microSD card.
Tip: This method gives you the fastest transfer speeds, especially with a USB 3.0 reader. If you’re copying large files (10GB+), this is the better option.
Method 2: Mount SD Card Through Hekate
If you don’t want to remove the SD card, you can mount it directly to your PC through Hekate over USB.
1. Open Hekate
Boot your Switch into Hekate (the bootloader menu that appears before you launch CFW).
2. Go to Tools
Tap Tools on the Hekate main screen.
3. Open USB Tools
Tap USB Tools.
4. Select SD Card
Tap SD Card. Your Switch screen will indicate that the SD card is now mounted over USB.
5. Connect to Your PC
Plug your Switch into your computer using a USB-C to USB-A cable. The SD card should appear as a removable drive in File Explorer.
6. Transfer Your Files
Drag and drop files as needed.
7. Safely Eject When Done
When you’re finished, right-click the drive in File Explorer and select Eject. This is important – it ensures all data is written completely and allows the Switch to safely exit USB mounting mode. After ejecting, press a button on the Switch to return to Hekate.
Note: Transfer speeds over USB through Hekate are limited to USB 2.0 speeds (~30-40 MB/s), which is slower than a USB 3.0 card reader. For quick transfers this is fine, but for large files a card reader is faster.
