RetroAchievements adds unlockable achievements to classic games, tracked on your retroachievements.org profile. SCCM Retro has it built in, so once you link your account, the launcher tracks your progress as you play and shows it right on each game’s menu.

Linking your account

First, make a free account at retroachievements.org if you don’t already have one. Then, in SCCM Retro, open Settings and go to the RetroAchievements tab.

  1. Turn Enabled on.
  2. Enter your retroachievements.org username.
  3. Enter your password and confirm to log in.

The launcher stores a connect token after login, so your password itself isn’t kept.

How it works

As you play a game that has an achievement set, the launcher checks your progress and awards achievements to your online profile. Each game’s menu shows how many achievements it has and how many you’ve earned, along with the ones still unclaimed.

Each game also has its own achievement mode:

  • Off: no achievements for that game.
  • Softcore: earns achievements, with save states and rewind allowed.
  • Hardcore: full points, but no save states, rewind, or cheats.

You pick the mode from the RetroAchievements entry in the game’s menu.

What affects your achievements

Two things affect your achievements: save states and cheats. Hardcore mode turns both off so points count at full value. Loading a save state during a hardcore run drops you to softcore for that session. Cheats and achievements do not mix, so leave cheats off for a game if you want your unlocks to count.

Which systems are supported

Earning achievements works on the RetroArch based systems in SCCM Retro: NES, SNES, Game Boy / Color, GBA, Genesis, N64, PS1, PSP, Dreamcast, GameCube, and Wii. Whether a specific game has achievements depends on RetroAchievements supporting that title, and the game’s menu tells you at a glance.
