A save state snapshots the exact moment you are in a game so you can pick up right where you left off. It is separate from a game’s own built-in saves, and it works across the systems SCCM Retro runs.
Creating a save state
While a game is running, open the in-game overlay and save to a slot. This captures your exact spot.

Loading a save state
From the grid, press A on the game and choose Load save state in its menu, then pick the slot you want to jump back to. When you have a recent state, the menu also offers a Continue last session shortcut so you can resume in one step.

How RetroAchievements affects save states
In Hardcore mode, save states are turned off, because that is the trade for earning full points. If you want to use save states freely, play in Softcore mode or with achievements off. Softcore still earns achievements, marked as softcore.
How cheats affect save states
A save state captures the game with whatever cheats were active when you launched. Turning a cheat on or off only takes effect on a fresh launch, not on a state you already loaded.
