SCCM Switch Toolbox is a free Nintendo Switch SD card tool for Windows. Back up your card, format and partition it, migrate to a new card, and auto-set up a fresh install with the homebrew apps you actually want, all in one app. One tool handles what used to take half a dozen.

Version: v3.2.0 Release Date: June 24, 2026
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Backup | Create compressed .sccmbak archives of any combination of HOS Data, emuMMC, Linux, and Android partitions, with FAT32 label/serial preservation, sparse e2image for ext4, integrity hashes, and custom notes per backup. |
| SD Card Backup | Create compressed backups of your full SD card. Supports your stock partition, EmuMMC, Linux, and Android. Linux and Android backups are file-based to save space. They can also be restored to a smaller partition as long as the files fit. EmuMMC backups are currently raw. A file-based EmuMMC backup mode is planned for a future release and will be much more space-efficient. |
| Linux Partition File Browser | View and transfer files to and from your Linux partition without booting into Linux. |
| SD Card Formatting | Format your SD card with a custom partition layout. Add partitions for Linux, Android, or EMU MMC during the format. Add or remove Linux and Android partitions while preserving data. |
| SD Card Migration | Move your existing setup from one card to another. Add new partitions or remove existing ones during the migration. |
| Auto Setup (Beta) | Check the boxes for the homebrew apps you want. The app formats your card, copies the right files, and injects a payload for unpatched models. No manual setup needed. |
| Payload Injection | A dedicated tab for sending payloads to unpatched Switch models. Useful as a standalone tool when you don’t need the rest of the SD card features. |
| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| File-by-file Emummc backups | more space efficient and faster processing |
| EmuMMC exploration | gamesave backup and other editing tools |
| Linux Emulation build | Retropie instance preconfigured for GameCube, Wii, PS2, 3DS, and other consoles |

Antivirus False Positives
Windows SmartScreen and some antivirus software may flag SCCM Switch Toolbox the first time you run it. This is a false positive. If your antivirus quarantines the app, you can safely add an exception for it.
A few common reasons it gets flagged:
- PyInstaller packaging. The app is built with PyInstaller, a standard tool for packaging Python programs as a single
.exe. Some malware authors also use PyInstaller, so antivirus heuristics sometimes flag any PyInstaller build regardless of what it actually does. - Direct disk access. The app reads and writes raw SD card sectors to back up, restore, and format partitions. Antivirus engines treat raw disk access as suspicious because ransomware uses it too.
- Bundled utilities. SCCM Switch Toolbox ships with Linux filesystem tools (
debugfs,resize2fs,e2fsck,mkfs.ext4,mkfs.fat) andTegraRcmSmash.exefor injecting Hekate via RCM mode. RCM injectors are sometimes labeled “Hacktool” or “PUA” (Potentially Unwanted Application) by AV vendors, even though they only work on hardware you physically own. - Unsigned executable. The build is not signed with a paid code-signing certificate, so Windows shows a generic “unrecognized publisher” warning the first time you launch it.
Why It Needs Administrator Privileges
Windows requires admin rights for any program that touches physical drives directly. SCCM Switch Toolbox needs admin to:
- Read and write raw disk sectors (
.PhysicalDrive0) for partition backup, restore, and Hekate-compatible partition tables - Lock and dismount volumes during modification so Windows doesn’t corrupt your card
- Read ext4 (Linux) partitions that Windows can’t normally see
- Install and remove the libusbK driver needed for RCM payload injection
- Run the bundled format and partition tools
The app only connects to the network to check for its own updates and to download homebrew you have explicitly chosen to install from public GitHub releases.
